Dear Church Family,
Imagine a clear, cold night in Balboa Park. Thousands of people are milling around and the beautiful Spreckles Organ Pavilion is filled to capacity. A gorgeous 35 ft. Christmas tree covered with 15,000 lights and hundreds of ornaments is flanked on either side by an 80-voice choir. A hush comes over the crowd as two young ladies step forward and the orchestra begins to play “A Baby Changes Everything.” If you are not familiar with the song, it describes how Mary’s life was forever changed by the new-born king. Tears actually came to my eyes as the Christmas tree opened up revealing the full cast of the nativity looking at the Christ-child while the choir sang, “Shepherds all gather round, up above the star shines down. A baby changes everything…..a choir of angels sing, glory to the newborn king, a baby changes everything, everything, everything, everything—-Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!”
By the time they got to the last hallelujah my heart felt like it was going to burst. I wanted to run up to every person, grab them by the shoulders and say, “Can’t you hear what they are saying? This newborn king came for you! This baby changes everything!” But, of course, I didn’t do that. I couldn’t do that—-there were too many people. I had to trust the working of the Holy Spirit as the young ladies sang the last few words of the song. It says, “My whole life has turned around. I was lost, but now I’m found. A baby changes everything, yeah, a baby changes everything.” Please pray with me that those who need a Savior will discover the newborn King this Christmas.
Sincerely,
Pastor Mark
